Prelude “Spirit, Open My Heart” MUSIC: Trad. Irish, TEXT: Ruth Duck Sung by Keisha Prime

Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living. As you love may I love, in receiving and in giving. Spirit, open my heart. Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my story. In each though, word, and deed, may my living bring you glory.

Call to Worship

Christ says, come away to a deserted place and rest a while.
God calls us to quiet and rest, even as we continue to minister to those in need.
Let us come into this quit place and worship our God.

Hymn “Near to the Heart of God”    #TPH # 527

Prayer for Illumination

May the reading of your Word draw near to you those of us once far off.
May the hearing of your Word break down the dividing walls between us, for Jesus Christ, your living Word, is our peace. Amen.

Reading from the Epistle to the Ephesians 2: 8—22

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God --
9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast.
10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
11 So then, remember that at one time you Gentiles by birth,1 called "the uncircumcision" by those who are called "the circumcision" -- a physical circumcision made in the flesh by human hands --
12 remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.

Reading from the Gospel of Mark 6: 30—34
The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

The Lord’s Prayer (Ecumenical)

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.  For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.  Amen.

Charge/Benediction

Let the Spirit build us together into a living temple for the Lord!

We have been restored in the worship of our God.
We are dwelling in the house of the Lord—let us be God’s banquet for one another!

Refrain
Every Time I Feel the Spirit moving in my heart, I will pray,
Every Time I feel the Spirit, moving in my heart I will pray.
Upon the mountain, when my God spoke, Out of God’s mouth came fire and smoke. All around me, it looked so shine, I asked my Lord if all was mine.
‘Ol Jordan River, chilly and cold, It chills the body but not the soul.
There ain’t but one train that’s on this track, It runs to heaven and runs right back. Refrain
