“Spirit, Open My Heart”   MUSIC: Trad. Irish, TEXT: Ruth Duck sung by Keisha Prime

Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living. As you love may I love, in receiving and in giving. Spirit, open my heart. Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my story. In each thought, word, and deed, may my living bring you glory.

Call to Worship

The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of seeds on earth;
it grows up and becomes the greatest of shrubs, and the birds of the air make nests in its shade.
Give thanks to God, whose promised reign is coming.
Thanks be to God!

Hymn “All Hail the Power of Jesus Name”   #TPH 142 sung by Keisha Prime

Prayer for Illumination

Holy Spirit, speak to us your truth and show us your wisdom, that we may understand and serve our Sovereign God more faithfully.  Amen.

Reading from the Epistles      2 Corinthians 5: 6—10, 16—17
So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord –for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil.
From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view,2 we know him no longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

Hymn  “Called As Partners in Christ’s Service”  TPH #343 sung by Keisha Prime

Reading from the Gospels          Mark 4: 26—34

He also said, "The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come."
He also said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade."
With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it; he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples.

Postlude “Every Time I Feel the Spirit” African American Spiritual sung by Keisha Prime

Refrain
Every Time I Feel the Spirit moving in my heart, I will pray,
Every Time I feel the Spirit, moving in my heart I will pray.

Upon the mountain, when my God spoke, Out of God’s mouth came fire and smoke.
Refrain
All around me, it looked so shine, I asked my Lord if all was mine.
Refrain
‘Ol Jordan River, chilly and cold, It chills the body but not the soul.
Refrain
There ain’t but one train that’s on this track, It runs to heaven and runs right back. Refrain
