Opening Words

Jesus Christ summons us to answer God’s call of mercy.

Christ gathers us and gives us power
    to be healed and to heal,
    to be forgiven and to forgive,
    to be freed from sin and to set others free,
    to tell one another and the world:
God’s presence is at hand.  Let us worship God.

Music      Be Still My Soul by Katharina von Schlegal

Sung by Keisha Prime

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: The hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Opening Prayer

God of all power and peace, as Jesus sent his disciples out to heal the sick, cast out demons, gather the lost, raise the dead, and proclaim the nearness of your realm, make us ready to go and share the good news we have received through the peacemaking cross of Jesus. Gather us as Christ’s faithful disciples and empower us with his good news, in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Call to Confession

Through our Lord Jesus Christ we have obtained access to the grace in which we stand.  With confidence in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.

Prayer of Confession

Loving God, without your grace we are like sheep without a shepherd. Sometimes we are harassed by sin and feel helpless against its power. Sometimes, in our sin, we use our own power to harass the helpless. We are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Forgive us, O Lord, and bring us home. Restore us to your flock and fold, we pray; through Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Hear the good news of God’s love: we are justified by faith we have peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. The peace of Christ be with you.

Prayer for Illumination

 Lord God, by your Spirit teach us to obey your voice and keep your covenant so that we may be a priestly kingdom, your holy people; in Jesus’ name. Amen.

A Reading  from Scripture: Romans 5: 1—8

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person -- though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.

Music Offering His Eye is On The Sparrow By Civilla Martin

Sung by Keisha Prime

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

And I know He watches
And I know He watches
And I know He watches me

I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches over me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
And I know He watches over me.

Offering of Our Gifts (One way to donate money is to use the "Donate Now" button on the main page of this website.)
Almighty God, in this time of global pandemic, when patterns of behavior which have been familiar to us are overturned and we face an uncertain future, we realize that we still have the personal gifts you gave us at conception and the skills we have developed over time. Help us to recognize those gifts and realize new ways to use them in service to you through service to others. In Christ’s name. Amen

Closing Prayer
Hold me close to your heart and bear me up on eagle’s wings, that I may let your love shine through me; in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Benediction
Go, proclaim the good news of God’s love and that the kingdom of heaven has come near! May the love of God shine through you, the grace of Christ be felt by all those around you, and the Spirit’s peace be with you always. Amen.

  QUESTION FOR REFLECTION

How is God’s presence experienced in a Christian’s life? Is it always peaceful?
