OPENING PRAYER

Lord, on this day set aside to honor and remember mothers, we give you thanks for our mothers. We are grateful that you chose to give us life through them, and that they received the gift of life from your hands, and gave it to us. Thank you for the sacrifices they made in carrying us and giving birth. We thank you for the women who raised us, who were our mothers in childhood. Whether birth mom, adopted mom, older sister, aunt, grandmother, stepmother, or someone else, we thank you for those women who held us and fed us, who cared for us and kissed away our pain. We pray that our lives may reflect the love they showed us, and that they would be pleased to be called our moms. Amen.

Mommy Loves You written by Keisha Prime

Hush baby, don’t say a word.
Mommy’s here. I’m right here
To nurture and to love
Calm your fears. Catch your tears.
Fields of daisies, the skies above
Are emblems of my love to you.
And when words can’t seem to do the job.

I will sing you a song, it goes…
Ooooooooo Mommy loves you.
Ooooooooo Mommy loves you.
Ooooooooo Mommy loves you.
Ooooooooo Mommy loves you.

I find it so good to know you’re my father and my mother too.
I know that I’m never alone.
Your Spirit guides me. Awakens me to freedom.
Mixtures of laughter. Symphonies of sound.
Are emblems of your love to me.
And whenever I feel a little down.
I hear you singing my favorite song.

It goes…
OOOoooo Mommy loves you.
OOOooooo Let me hold you.
Oooooo Mommy loves you.
OOoooo I love you.
OOOoooo Mommy loves you.
OOOooooo Let me hold you
OOOoooo Mommy loves you.
OOOooooo Let me hold you
Hush baby don’t say a word.

READING FROM THE GOSPEL:   John 14: 1—7

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him."

If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again by James Rowe and James W. Vaughn

How sweet and happy seemed those days of which I dream
When memory recalls them now and then.
And with what rapture sweet, my weary heart would beat.
If I could hear my mother pray again.

If I could hear my mother pray again.
If I could only hear her tender voice as then.
How happy I would be with who means so much to me.
If I could hear my mother pray again.

Her work on earth is done. The life crown has been won.
and she will be at rest with Him above.
And some glad morning she I know will welcome me
To that eternal home of peace and love.

If I could hear my mother pray again.
If I could only hear her tender voice as then.
How happy I would be with who means so much to me.
If I could hear my mother pray again.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord Jesus, as I seek to serve you this day, let not my heart be troubled. Help me to believe with conviction that you are with me, and I am in you, and you are in God.
Amen.

  QUESTION FOR REFLECTION

In the Billy Gaines’ song we hear, “No one ever cared for me like Jesus.” But some one taught you about Jesus, and about love. “Who first taught you that you were loved? Really loved? Unconditionally loved?
