Welcome
Questions for Reflection: What is the most important thing in your life?  If you had to run for your life and leave everything behind, what would be the one thing you would most grieve?

Prelude:  "Table of Plenty"-Schutte sung by Keisha Prime

Come to the feast of heaven and earth
Come to the table of plenty
God will provide for all that we need
Here at the table of plenty

O come and sit at my table
Where saints and sinners are friends
I wait to welcome the lost and lonely
To share the cup of my love

Come to the feast of heaven and earth
Come to the table of plenty
God will provide for all that we need
Here at the table of plenty

O come and eat without money
Come to drink without price
My feast of gladness will feed your spirit
With faith and fullness of life

Come to the feast of heaven and earth
Come to the table of plenty
God will provide for all that we need
Here at the table of plenty

My bread will ever sustain you
Through days of sorrow and war
My wine will flow like a sea of gladness
To flood the depths of your soul

Come to the feast of heaven and earth
Come to the table of plenty
God will provide for all that we need
Here at the table of plenty

Call to Worship

Only God is holy, above all else, enthroned upon our praises.
We come with praise and thanksgiving on our lips for all that God has done.
 Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near;
We come seeking our to be nearer to our God for in our God is life and peace.
Let us worship God.

Opening Prayer
You alone are holy, O God; you alone are good.  Help us to let go of worldly cares and leave lesser things behind so that we may be ready to enter your holy realm of peace where the first are last and the last are first; through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Opening Hymn  “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”     TPH # 210

Call to Confession

God is not far from us.  When trouble is near, God is our help and our refuge. Let us confess our sins to God, that we might receive mercy.

Prayer of Confession
We know the commandments:
You shall not murder;
you shall not commit adultery;
you shall not steal;
you shall not bear false witness;
you shall not defraud;
honor your father and your mother.
We are sure we follow them, but we cannot let go of the things we think we need or that we think is important.
We do not follow you, or love you, O God, with all our hearts, our minds, our strength.  We refrain from giving our whole trust in you.  Forgive our disobedience, our lack of commitment, and our desire for things that cannot save us.  In the name of Jesus the Christ who gave his whole life for the sakeof the gospel.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

Prayer for Illumination
Let your Word pierce our hearts and open our minds, dividing good from evil, truth from falsehood, life from death; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Reading from the Epistle to the Hebrews 4: 12—16
Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the    thoughts and intentions of the heart.  And before him no creature is hidden, but all are  naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account. Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been testedas we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Reading from the Gospel of Mark 10: 17—31
As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"  Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.  You know the commandments: 'You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.'"  He said to him, "Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth."  Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money1 to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."  When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

Sermon:   “Freedom’s Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose”  The Rev. Russell Lehman

Sermon by The Rev. Russel Lehman

*Affirmation of Faith
We believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who gathers, protects and nourishes the Church from the beginning of the world to the end.

The Church is holy; the Church is universal; it is the fellowship of God’s children, called together from the whole of humanity to proclaim God’s wonderful deeds.

We believe that the genuine faith in Jesus Christ is the only condition for membership in this Christian church.

We praise God that race, class, gender, or culture does not determine who belongs to this Church.

We believe that the Church belongs to God and that it should stand where God stands: against injustice and with those who are wronged.
We commit ourselves to reject all forms of injustice in ourselves and amongst us; and to struggle against all forms on injustice and every teaching that allows injustices to flourish.

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer (Ecumenical)
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.  Amen.

sung by Keisha Prime

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way!

O sisters let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sisters let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe & crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O brothers let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
Come on brothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O fathers let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O fathers let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe and crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O mothers let's go down
Come on down, don't you wanna go down?
Come on mothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O sinners, let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sinners, let's go down
Down in the river to pray

Postlude "Blessed Be Your Name" sung by Keisha Prime

Blessed be Your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

And blessed be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

And blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

And blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name
Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord blessed be Your name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord blessed be Your name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
